Deicing Paved Areas

Make the roads safer with automated deicing services

Your benefits

Autonomous deicing

CAPRA URBAN autonomously navigates paved areas and applies deicing agents as needed, making resource allocation of valued human resources easier for facility managers, service providers, and municipalities.

precision application

Unlike traditional deicing methods that may result in overuse or uneven application of deicing agents, CAPRA URBAN applies deicing agents with precision, minimizing waste and maximizing effectiveness.

Remote Monitoring and Control

Mobile robots can be remotely monitored and controlled, allowing operators to oversee deicing operations from a centralized location. This enables real-time adjustments based on weather conditions and pavement conditions, optimizing deicing effectiveness.

Environmental Considerations

Our mobile robots are designed to use brine, which requires up to 70% less salt, or eco-friendly deicing agents such as Viaform, reducing the environmental impact on our infrastructure, plant-life and drinking water.

The challenge

Keeping paved areas clear of snow and ice is a core public task. Current methods are effective to a certain extent but have revealed several drawbacks that hinder efficiency and sustainability. As we face increasing labor shortages and growing environmental concerns, the need for innovative solutions has never been more critical. Utilizing robots for the job can ensure safer infrastructure in a shorter time.

Safety concerns

Ice accumulation on paved surfaces poses significant safety hazards for pedestrians and vehicles, increasing the risk of slips, falls, and accidents.

Efficiency & Timeliness

Manual deicing methods can be time-consuming and labor-intensive, especially for large paved areas such as parking lots, sidewalks, and roads. Ensuring timely deicing operations is crucial for maintaining accessibility and safety.

Environmental Impact

Overuse of salt for de-icing raises concerns about the negative impact on the environment as salt dries out green spaces, corrodes underground pipes, rusts vehicles, and cracks concrete and asphalt, leading to additional repair costs.

labor shortage

Deicing is a task that comes suddenly and needs to be handled everywhere at once. With workers in short demand, getting enough workers on such short notice can be a challenge, and the process can end up taking way too long, leaving roads and pavement unsafe to traverse for days.

The solution

We provide an automated solution to the biggest winter-related task faced by facility managers in colder climates or regions where snow and ice accumulation are common.

Environmentally friendly defrosting agent

The brine used for deicing uses up to 70% less salt, resulting in less strain on pipes, roads and sidewalks. Eco-friendly deicing agents such as Viaform are also supported.

Increased efficiency

Oversee a fleet of up to 5 robots per operator for easy and efficient deicing services of sidewalks, parking lots, and other urban paths.

Data-supported insights

Use the collected data from the robot to gain deeper insight into areas troubled by the cold climate, and make informed decisions about future improvements to you deicing efforts.

Continued Operations

The deicing robot has a container of 36 liters and can cover an area of 1800 m2 with a full tank. Automated refilling and recharging support truly autonomous operations.
