Interlogistics

Bridging the gap between indoor and outdoor logistics

Your benefits

AUTOMATED OPERATIONS IN DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENTS

CAPRA CARRIER’S perception engine enables it to navigate more robustly in dynamic environments compared to LiDAR-based SLAM. Regardless of how often cargo and machinery is relocated within the environment, the robot will still execute its missions unaffected.

SEAMLESS INDOOR-OUTDOOR MATERIAL HANDLING

Streamlining the flow of information and goods across the entire facility can significantly reduce manual interventions. CAPRA CARRIER seamlessly handles transitions from flat to inclined surfaces and from controlled to shifting weather conditions.

DATA INTEGRATION & INTEROPERABILITY

Ensuring that all the systems involved in interlogistics can communicate and share data seamlessly is crucial. Capra Robotics’ VDA5050-based approach to data integration and interoperability allows for a more cohesive logistics ecosystem, minimizing errors and inefficiencies.

REAL-TIME TRACKING & VISIBILITY

Employing AMRs for real-time tracking and visibility is essential for managing logistics effectively. The system can provide real-time data on the location and condition of goods in transit. This transparency enhances accountability and enables timely decision-making.

The challenge

INTERRUPTED VALUE CHAINS

For decades, manufacturing companies have invested heavily in optimizing their intralogistics to ensure the smooth flow of materials within their facilities. However, a critical bottleneck arises when moving cargo out of a production unit. The transition from indoor to outdoor logistics presents a unique set of challenges for AMRs and AGVs such as crossing the gate, shifting weather, and uneven terrain which results in manual handling. Unfortunately, manual processing places companies at increased risk of errors, increased operational costs, and worst: interrupted value chains.

The heavy reliance on labor puts companies at risk due to historically low unemployment rates and increased labor costs. To stay competitive, scale their business, and maintain conformity to existing process standards, companies need new automated and digitized solutions for a wide range of tasks – and in new domains. To this end, CAPRA ROBOTICS® has emerged as a transformative force in logistics.

INTRALOGISTICS BECOMES INTERLOGISTICS

Whereas intralogistics refers to optimizing and managing the logistical flow of information and physical material within a facility, CAPRA ROBOTICS® proposes a new concept to describe the process of moving goods across entire facilities in uninterrupted logistics flows: Interlogistics.

Interlogistics involves the transfer of goods from the well-controlled indoor environment of a facility to the more unpredictable outside environment with various challenges such as weather conditions, heavy traffic, and challenging terrain when moving goods between buildings.

Because the two environments are worlds apart when it comes to classic automation, this transition is often accompanied by manual processes, which introduce various complications. Manually moving material between production sections with forklifts increases the risks of errors, damage, and increased operational costs. A lack of real-time tracking contributes to extended lead times while additional labor, storage, and the need for error rectification all contribute to higher expenses. Now, however, there is an alternative.

The solution

No business’ logistical flow stops at the end of their production line, and neither should your automated material handling equipment.

Uninterrupted logistics flows

Link indoor and outdoor automation in uninterrupted logistics flows facility-wide.

flexible to payloads

Handle SLCs, pallets, or other industry-specific packaging of up to 500 kg (1100 lb.)

interoperability

The CAPRA FLEET MANAGER can control any AMR or AGV that utilizes the VDA5050 interface.

FIT FOR ANY ENVIRONMENT

The robot is IP65 rated and operates in varying lighting, precipitation, and temperatures.

How it works

1
Mapping the environment

The area is mapped with the vision system to increase system localization.

2
Uploading the facility map

A map of the facility is uploaded to the Capra Fleet Manager to visualize robot path in the map.

3
PLC & switch integration

PLCs and switches for communication with several external systems, such as, gate controls, light controls, and crossing signals are installed.

4
Fleet setup on network

Setup requires Wi-Fi or local 5G. Coverage and number of access points are defined based on plant size.

5
Generate tasks

Tasks generated in your central management system (WMS/MES/ERP) can be easily communicated to the robot via the VDA5050-compliant CAPRA FLEET MANAGER interface.

6
In operation

In operation, the robot will continue to refine the map through iterative optimization for accurate localization and navigation.
